28th York Festival of Traditional Dance

Over the weekend of 12th & 13th of September 2015 the streets of York will once again come alive to the jingling bells, brightly coloured costumes, clashing sticks, tapping clogs and music of 100's of Morris Dancers.

It is the 28th York Festival of Traditional Dance organised by local team Ebor Morris.

Saturday at 10.30am sees the start with a procession from the Guildhall  - along Davygate, into Church Street then right into King's Square.  Teams will then be dancing throughout the day in King's Square, St. Sampson's Square, Parliament Street, and St Williams Green, finishing with a showcase in front of the Civic Party in St. Sampson’s Square from 3.30pm.  The festival continues on Sunday between 11am and 1:30pm.

Teams are coming from as far afield as Scunthorpe, Derby, and Macclesfield andencompass all traditions of the dance from the loud, brash face-painted Border dancers through the white dressed Cotswold to the precise Step Clog.

It’s a feast for the senses, not to be missed, so come along to the squares of Yorkand enjoy the spectacle!
